Charge while you pedal with Silverback?s new USB port-packing bikes (Yahoo! News)

If you're worried about battery life, take a spin around the block

If you wish you could get a little more?done on your morning bike commute, bike manufacturer Silverback has you covered. Why waste all of that energy you generate when you pedal your way to work when you could use it to charge up your gadgets? Two bikes in Silverback's Starke line now pack a USB charging port, thanks to an energy-generating?dynamo nestled in the front hub (rather than solar power, like many?green gadgets). The bike can charge up low-voltage devices, so your iPod or smartphone won't be dead by the time you get where you're headed.

Silverback's Starke 1 and Starke 2 commuter bikes feature the USB port, nickel alloy frames, and weigh in at about 30 pounds. If you'd like a little boost on your ride, the Starke 1 also packs a built-in electric motor that should speed you along quite nicely. The duo of gadget-friendly bikes will be available in 2012 but don't yet sport a price tag. While Silverback's innovation is certainly noteworthy, tinkering cyclists have rigged up?bike USB ports before, but they weren't commercially available until now.

If you're interested in the trappings of the finer side of cycling,?self-inflating tires might be the next step. Looking to dive into biking your way to work? Check out our?guide for subtracting two wheels from your commute.
